I am delighted to present nine tracks selected by my very special guest and dear friend Andrew Blake. Andrew's career in music spans more than 20 years and includes stints in Primal Scream, Felt, Biff Bang Pow, Mexico 70 and Imitation Electric Piano. He takes us on a musical journey not only from the north to south of Britain and over the Atlantic, but also through his personal love of music, from the pub rock classic by Wreckless Eric "Whole Wide World" to the sophistry of Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the years."

Love

As a response to last week's hate-filled invective, this week's show is a 55-minute love fest. We start the play list with a storming blue-eyed soul b-side by the Rascals called "Love is a beautiful thing" and stay pretty much within the psychedelic 60s until we get to "Falling in love" - a remake of Dennis Wilson's "Lady" sung by his wife's group Spring (US), formerly called The Honeys. There's a brief 70s-80s agit-pop triple bill, and we close on XTC's psyche pastiche "My love explodes."

Hate

We stir up powerful feelings this week with a programme about hate. Many things incur the wrath of this week's songwriters: school, children, the city, friends, work, rock and roll, even the universe. A somewhat predictable bulge in the play list around the end of the 1970s, with a few punks expressing their grievances, in various shades of mockney.

This week, we take a listen to 20-odd years of nonsense titles and unfinished lyrics in 55 minutes of la-la-las, diddy-wah-ditties and shang-a-langs. Clearly, some obvious omissions, such as the Bay City Rollers, not least because they're crap. But we do have the thrilling second single by The Small Faces "Sha la la la lee" and the gumbo-stained Loop Garoo by Dr John, as well as the seminal "Do the Du" by A Certain Ratio.
